Our Famous Channel 4 Live CompostCam!
Another New
Live Camera
We live in one of the last areas in
Southern England where the sky is still dark at night with little light
pollution. Take a look!
Due to a little local
difficulty we have had to move the compost heap! Rest assured Compost-Cam
will be back soon.
Not the most interesting view perhaps,
but take a look at joint webmaster Chris as he types away in his room.
New for 2005 - six, yes six, LIVE web cameras! Until now our camera pictures have come from
standard web cams linked to a network of computers, one or two cameras to
each computer. Now that our pictures can be viewed live on other web sites
including the BBC we have installed
dedicated network cameras. Our new cameras are similar to the web cam that
you may have at home except the "computer" is built inside the camera
body itself which
is linked directly to our existing Ethernet network. Result, a more reliable
picture without having to leave an attached computer running 24/7! The
"computer" inside the cameras run a version of the Linux operating system
which is cheaper and rather more reliable than Windows. Windows looses another user,
sorry Bill ;-) If you'd like to see technical details of the new cameras
that we are using take a look
here.
Channel 4 in Britain called our page showing a compost heap
sloowly rotting "The most boring page on the internet !" At
HorstedKeynes.Com we are proud to be the hosts of this essential relaxing
resource! Unfortunately we have recently had to move the compost heap and are in
the process of setting up its replacement. As this will be in a damp corner of
the garden under the trees, we are having to source and install a weatherproof web camera
together with specially armoured cable, (and possibly some lights too). As
soon as the new site goes live we will of course report it here.
March 2006
We are very unusual in allowing almost
all pictures on H.K.Com to be viewed and downloaded in full resolution for
PERSONAL use only. Just click on the picture that
you want to study and it will open. If you then see a little + symbol left click
again to view it full size.
To save the picture right click and then "Save As". You may NOT
copy our
pictures onto other web sites without specific permission.
